PARASHA OF THE WEEK N.25 VAYIKRAH (PARASHAH VAYIKR PARASHA OF THE WEEK N.25 VAYIKRAH (PARASHAH VAYIKRA) G-d commands Moses regarding various types of offerings: under what circumstances they should be offered, and what they should consist of. Moses conducts a ceremony to anoint the Tent of Appointed Meeting and the priests who will officiate in it. A cloud now covers the Tent of Appointed Meeting, and the Presence of the Lord fills the Tabernacle. G-d says to Moses “Explain to the sons of Israel the ways of bringing offerings to G-d. PARASHA OF THE WEEK N.22 KI-TISA (PARASHAT KI TISA PARASHA OF THE WEEK N.22 KI-TISA (PARASHAT KI TISA) G-d had already commanded Moses how to build a Tent of Appointed Meeting for G-d. This Dwelling Place was a moveable holy sanctuary where the people can bring offerings to G-d. Priests were to wear special garments and wash before officiating in this sanctuary. Each person, rich and poor, was to donate half shekel to finance the service in the sanctuary. “As for you, Moses,” G-d continued, “take the finest spices and the finest olive oil and make a holy anointment. You shall anoint the Tent of Appointed Meeting, the Ark of the Testimony and all within the sanctuary. Sanctify them so that they become holy and that all who touch them become holy. “Tell the children of Israel to keep My Sabbaths so that you may know that I am the Lord who sanctifies you. For those who profane My Sabbath, their soul shall be cut off from among the people. Six days shall work be done, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of solemn rest, holy to the Lord. PARASHA OF THE WEEK N.21 TETZAVEH - Purim Sameach PARASHA OF THE WEEK N.21 TETZAVEH - Purim Sameach - G-d also reveals to Moses how to make the priestly garments and describes the seven day ritual to invest Aaron (Cohen Gadol) and his sons Nadav, Avihu, Elazar and Itamar (Cohanim) as priests. ”And Moses” G-d commands “you shall command the sons of Israel to use pure olive oil for kindling the light of the lamps. Aaron shall set up this light to burn continuously in the sanctuary. It will serve as a light for G-d for all generations. Aaron and his sons shall serve Me as priests. Make for them sacred garments using fine linen, gold and blue, purple and scarlet yarns. Make for them a breast-piece, an ephod, a robe, a tunic of checkered work and a sash. These garments must always be worn when officiating in My sanctuary. For Aaron’s ephod, take two lazuli stones and engrave in gold on them the names of the tribes of Israel. G-d first instructs Moses how to fashion a Dwelling Place, a sanctuary for G-d’s presence. “In this sanctuary” G-d says “the Israelites are to bring me gifts. The gifts can be of any kind from any person whose heart moves them in a giving way. Moshé informs the people of numerous ethical and ritual laws and seals the covenant between the Children of Israel and G-d. He takes Moses’ wife and two sons and brings them to Moses in the wilderness. After a passionate reunion, Moses shares with Yitro the whole story of how the Lord rescued the Hebrews from bondage to pharaoh in Egypt. Yitro rejoices, saying “Blessed be the Lord. With the Egyptians on their tail, G-d splits the sea and Moses leads the Israelites through it. When the Egyptians enter, G-d closes the waters and the Egyptians drown. Miriam led all the women in song and dance to celebrate. Soon after, the Israelites begin to complain about life in the desert. G-d provides quails and manna to feed the Israelites. I will be known as the G-d who brought you out of the land of Egypt.” “Moses” G-d continued “this time tell the Pharaoh that if he wouldn’t let my people go, I will bring locusts to swarm the land.” Moses warned Pharaoh of the incoming locust plague. His advisers urged him to let the Hebrews go but Pharaoh would only relent enough to let the men go and not the women and children. At the beginning the Nile is turned into blood and the Egyptians are left without drinking water, then He sends the frogs. The next plague is lice followed by wild animals. After each plague pharaoh promises to let the people go but, when the plague stopped, he reneges on his promises and keeps the people slave. Pestilence is the next plague and all the cattles and flocks end up destroyed. Then boils afflict the Egyptians; pharaoh keeps stalling and G-d sends to Egypt burning hail which scorches the earth and plants and trees die.
