Description
The dedication of the fourth of the Ten Commandments to Shabbat indicates the importance of the Day of Rest to the Jewish faith, a significance that comes from the Creation itself. The world is given into the safekeeping of the human race to use for six days. On the seventh day, it is returned to its rightful owner. On Shabbat, any work that constructively interferes with the physical world God has created is forbidden, for example lighting a re, cutting owers, or using money. Shabbat begins before sunset on Friday with the woman of the house lighting candles.
In the painting you can see the Shabbat in the Canton Synagogue. Below are 3 blessings:
The blessing of the wine, the bread and the Havdallah at the exit of the Shabbat.
