Jewish Holidays: SHAVUOT – Feast of the Weeks
Feast of the Weeks
6 Sivan (May, June)
“Weeks” is one of several names for this holiday, which focuses on the time between Pessach and the day that Moses received the Law on Mount Sinai. The Holiday is also known as the Time of the Giving of the Law. In addition, Shavuot is connected to the season of the grain harvest and the tradition of offering the first fruits of the season at the Temple.
In the synagogue, The Book of Ruth is read, and traditionally dairy food is eaten.
