PARASHOT Kedoshim n.31
G-d tells Moses to give the people a series of ethical and ritual laws instructing in how to be holy. The Lord has just told Moses to tell the Israelites about the law commanding an annual Day of Atonement and sexual prohibitions. The Lord says to Moses: “Speak to the whole Israelite community and say to them: You shall be holy, for I, the Lord your G-d, am holy. You shall each revere your mother and your father, and keep My Sabbaths. Do not turn to idols or make molten gods for yourselves. I, the Lord, am your G-d. When you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not reap all the way to the edges of your field, or gather the gleanings of your harvest. You shall not pick your vineyard bare. You shall leave them for the poor and the stranger.”

Il Signore dice a Moshé di istruire il popolo su una serie di leggi morali e rituali: «Dovete essere santi astenendovi dai peccati sessuali». Moshé comunica quindi agli israeliti la legge che stabilisce un giorno annuale di Espiazione e le proibizioni sessuali. «Dovete essere santi perché io, il Signore vostro, sono santo. Ciascuno di voi dovrà avere timore reverenziale nei confronti della madre e del padre e rispettare i miei Shabbatòt. Non rivolgetevi agli idoli e non plasmatene raffigurazioni per vostro uso. Solo Io sono il vostro Signore. Quando raccogliete i frutti della terra, non completate la mietitura fino agli angoli del campo e non raccoglietene le spighe. Nella vigna non dovete raccogliere i grappoli non maturi. Dovete lasciarli per il povero e lo straniero».
