PARASHOT Vayishlach n.08

The night before meeting with his brother Esau after an absence of twenty years, Jacob struggled with a divine being and wrested from him a new name, Isra’el (“Struggler with G-d”). The next day Esau and Jacob met and reconciled. Soon after they settled in Canaan, Jacob only daughter Dinah was raped by the son of Hamor the Hivite who was chieftain there in Shechem, and Dinah’s brothers took revenge by massacring all the men in the city of Shechem. Sometime after this event, Rachel gave birth to a second son, Benjamin, but she died in childbirth, and Jacob buried her there on the road to Bethlehem. Then Isaac died, and Jacob and Esau buried him.

PARASHOT Vayishlach n.08
