CHANUKAH IN THE RASHI HOUSE IN WORMS
(Hanukkah / Chanukkah / Channucah )
Hanukkah is the commemoration of the Maccabean Revolt against the Seleucid Empire of the 2nd century BCE and the rededication of the second Temple in Jerusalem after it is desecration by Antiochus the IV. The holiday also recalls the miracle that occurred: when rededicating the Temple, they only found enough pure olive oil for the Chanuchiah light to last one day. Instead, it burned for eight days, the time to make new oil.
Chanucah is celebrated by lighting every evening an additional candle on a nine branched menorah for 8 days.
