Pessach in Venice
The Jewish community of Venice celebrates every year a Seder for all the members. The weeks before, volunteers of the community bake the Mazzot (unleavened bread) and the typical Pesach cookies called bisse according to traditional recipes in the old Pesach forno (bakery) like their ancestors did since the Ghetto was established in 1516.
For this occasion I took myself the artistic license and moved our community center on the Canale Grande. The mazzot and the wine are brought in by boats. If you look at the picture you can see on the right Elijah the prophet who traditionally takes part in every seder and for whom we always prepare a goblet of wine. Lapo our red tubby cat whom you can see in the background participates also in the event.
