Parshat Emor, often seen as a technical portion filled with laws about priests, festivals, and justice, can be reinterpreted today as a call to live with intentional boundaries in a boundaryless world. The elevated standards for kohanim remind us of the weight of spiritual leadership and the complexities of representation; the sacred calendar of holidays invites us to reclaim time as holy and restorative in an always-on culture; the severe treatment of blasphemy highlights the power of speech and the need to treat our words with care in a digital age; and the principle of “eye for an eye” underscores the need for justice that is proportional, not punitive.
Rather than promoting exclusion or rigidity, Emor encourages us to ask: what do we sanctify, how do we honor limits, and how can we create a life where holiness is not abstract, but embodied in time, speech, action, and community?

News from our Gallery
This past week, the Venice Jewish community had the great honor of welcoming Ohr LeMishpachot, a remarkable organization devoted to preserving the memory of victims of terror and strengthening Jewish identity and resilience. From the moment the group arrived, the warmth and solidarity were palpable. The community opened its heart and its historic spaces to these special visitors, creating a powerful sense of connection across generations and continents. It was more than just a visit, it was a moment of shared strength, healing, and unity.
A particularly moving highlight took place in the magnificent Spanish Synagogue of Venice, one of the most treasured landmarks of European Jewish life. There, a heartfelt ceremony was held to honor and commemorate the families of victims. The service was led with the cooperation of Rav Alberto Sermoneta, whose words brought comfort and depth to all in attendance. Against the backdrop of centuries of Jewish resilience, the gathering became a testament to the unbreakable bond between past and present, between grief and growth, and between individual families and the broader Jewish story.
