PARASHA OF THE WEEK N.08 VAYISHLACH (PARASHAT VAYI PARASHA OF THE WEEK N.08 VAYISHLACH (PARASHAT VAYISHLACH)

https://thestudioinvenice.com/2023/11/30/parasha-of-the-week-vayischlach-2

Parasha of the Week n.08 Vayishlach (Parashot Vayishlach)
The night before meeting with his brother Esau after an absence of twenty years, Jacob struggled with a divine being and wrested from him a new name, Isra’el (“Struggler with G-d”). The next day Esau and Jacob met and reconciled. Soon after they settled in Canaan, Jacob only daughter Dinah was raped by the son of Hamor the Hivite who was chieftain there in Shechem, and Dinah’s brothers took revenge by massacring all the men in the city of Shechem. Sometime after this event, Rachel gave birth to a second son, Benjamin, but she died in childbirth, and Jacob buried her there on the road to Bethlehem. Then Isaac died, and Jacob and Esau buried him.

PARASHA OF THE WEEK N.07 VAYETZE (PARASHAH VAYETZE)
Parasha of the Week n.07 Vayetze
In the desert, Jacob dreamed of a ladder stretching between heaven and earth, with angels going up and down. In his dream, G-d promised to bless him with many descendants and divine favor. Jacob named this place Bethel. Arriving in Haran, Jacob met his cousin Rachel at the well, and asked his uncle Laban for his daughter Rachel’s hand. Laban demanded seven years of service from Jacob, but when the time was up he tricked Jacob, marrying him instead to Rachel’s older sister Leah. Jacob worked another seven years for Rachel. Rachel remained barren, but Leah gave birth to Jacob six sons and a daughter. Bilhah, Rachel’s handmaid, and Zilpah, Leah’s handmaid, each gave birth to two sons on their mistresses’ behalf. Then Rachel gave birth to a son, Joseph. Finally, after twenty years away from home, Jacob left for Canaan with his wives, eleven sons, and one daughter.

https://thestudioinvenice.com/2023/11/16/parasha-of-the-week-toledot-toldot

n.06 Toledot
Isaac and Rebekah became parents to twins. Esau became a hunter, while Jacob remained in the camp. Isaac favored Esau, Rebekah favored Jacob. One day Esau sold his birthright to Jacob in exchange for some lentil stew. When the time came for the old and blind Isaac to bless Esau, Rebekah disguised Jacob as his older brother so he received the blessing meant for Esau. Fearful of Esau’s revenge, Jacob fled to Rebekah’s brother Laban’s house in Haran.

https://thestudioinvenice.com/2023/11/09/parasha-of-the-week-chayesarah

Chaye Sarah n.05
Sarah dies, and Abraham buys a burial cave for her in Machpelah. Then Abraham sends his servant Eliezer to his brother Nahor’s house to find a wife for Isaac among his own people. At the well there, Eliezer encounters Nahor’s granddaughter Rebekah, and finding her worthy and willing, brings her back to marry Isaac. Then Abraham takes a new wife, Ketura, and becomes father of six more children.

(Parashot Vayeira)

https://thestudioinvenice.com/2023/11/02/parasha-of-the-week-vayera-vayeira/

Vayera n.04
One day three divine messengers come to Abraham and Sarah, telling them that they will soon have a son. G-d then tells Abraham that the wicked cities of Sodom and Gomorrah will be destroyed. Abraham argues with G-d to spare Sodom, – if at least ten righteous people could be found there – and G-d agrees. But the two divine messengers who went to Lot’s house in Sodom fail to find even ten righteous people. So Lot, his two daughters, and his wife fled the doomed city, but his wife looks back and become a pillar of salt. Sarah gives birth to a son, whom she and Abraham name Isaac. When Sarah sees Ishmael mocking Isaac, she has Abraham banish Hagar and Ishmael to the desert. G-d protects them, and blesses Ishmael, promising to make him a great nation. G-d then tests Abraham, commanding him to sacrifice Isaac. But when Abraham bound Isaac to the altar to kill him, an angel holds back the knife, and G-d blesses Abraham again.

Lech Lecha n.03
In this portion we see G-d calling Abram to leave his home and go to the land of Canaan. So Abram and Sarai, together with their nephew Lot, settle in Canaan. G-d blesses Abram, promising him countless descendants, and make a covenant with him. But Sarai is barren. She gives Abram her maid Hagar to bear a child in her place, and Hagar gives birth to a son, Ishmael. G-d promises Abram that Sarai too would soon bear a son. Then G-d changes Abram’s name to Abraham, and Sarai’s name to Sarah. When Ishmael is thirteen and Abraham is ninety-nine, Abraham circumcises himself, his son, and all the males of his household.

https://thestudioinvenice.com/2023/10/19/parasha-of-the-week-noach-2023

Noach n.02
Then the earth became corrupt. In this portion we see G-d commanded Noach, the only upright man in his generation, to build an ark to save himself, his family, and two of every living thing, for a flood was about to destroy the earth. Noach did so. After forty days of rain, water covered the earth, drowning all life, except those inside the ark. A year later the survivors emerged on dry land. G-d sent a rainbow, a promise that no great flood like this would come again. Then human beings decided to challenge G-d by building a tower to heaven, but G-d babbled their language, and they scattered throughout the world. Ten generations later, Abram was born. He married Sarah, and they settled in Haran.

(Parashot Bereshit)

Beresheit n.01
In the beginning, in this portion we see how G-d created the world out of chaos. G-d declared all creations good, and then G-d rested on the first Shabbat. The first human beings, Adam and Eve, lived peacefully in the Garden of Eden, until they disobeyed G-d’s commands (“Do not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil”) and were expelled from paradise. Their suffering continued when their son Cain killed his brother Abel. Ten generations later Noah was born.

(Parashot Vezot Hab'rachah)

Vezot-Ha-Berachah n.55

Moses gives the tribes of Israel a final blessing and dies at the age of 120; the Children of Israel mourn and begin to follow Joshua, their new leader. Before his death, Moses blesses the Children of Israel, reminding them that G-d’s teaching is the inheritance for the children of Israel and what unites them.Moses continues with a message for each of the tribes. Then Moses says to the people, “There is None like Your G-d. G-d guides heavens to help you… G-d is the support everlasting that raises up all things from the depths.

Parasha Della Settimana Vezot-Ha-Berachah n.55

Moses recites a song to the Children of Israel that testifies to their covenant with G-d. After Moses’ last speech to the children of Israel, G-d tells Moses to write down a song to teach to the Israelites. “Put this song in their mouths,” G-d says, “so that the words may become a witness for Me against them. After I bring them to the land that flows with milk and honey, they will eat and be satisfied and become obese. They will turn to other gods and serve them and mock Me and break My covenant. Then when many oppressive evils come upon them, this song will testify against them as witness.” On that day, Moses wrote down the song and taught it to the children of Israel.
